Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations – Risk-Taking Mission
Passionate Worship
We celebrate our lives together on Sunday mornings.
We come to church to enjoy God and each other.
When the music starts, whisper a prayer. Before the service, speak to God.
During the service, let God speak to you and after service,
speak to each other with the joy of God's love.

L:            Saved by God’s mercy, we remember God’s goodness and bountiful grace.
P:           We give thanks to God whose goodness and steadfast love endures forever

Prayer of Adoration
O God, giver of life and health, your Son Jesus Christ has called us to hunger and thirst to see right prevail.  Refresh us with your grace, that we may not be weary in well-doing; for the sake of him who meets all our needs, Jesus Christ our Savior, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

First Hymn                                 “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!”                                           # 138

Unison Prayer of Confession

O God, you have loved us as you loved your people whom you protected in Egypt.  But we have wandered away to worship other gods, idols such as money, power, knowledge.  Guide us that we may never worship nor serve idols of any kind.  Forgive us for promoting ourselves as though we could claim the credit for what you have given us.  Instead, may we dedicate ourselves to promote your love and your justice.  Grant that we may respond to Your great kindness to us by showing generosity and kindness to our neighbors, in order to glorify You, according to Your Spirit, and in honor of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

 L.    ...in Jesus Christ,
    P:    We are forgiven.

 Passing of the Peace   The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

 Scripture Readings:      Luke 12:13-21

                              The Gospel of the Lord
                              Praise to you, O Christ.
Psalm 107:1-9

          L:            O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
               for his steadfast love endures forever.
P:           Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,
               those he redeemed from trouble
               and gathered in from the lands,
L:            from the east and from the west,
               from the north and from the south.
P:           Some wandered in desert wastes,
               finding no way to an inhabited town;
L:            hungry and thirsty,
               their soul fainted within them.
P:           Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
               and he delivered them from their distress;
               he led them by a straight way,
               until they reached an inhabited town.
L:            Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love,
               for his wonderful works to humankind.
P:           For he satisfies the thirsty,
               and the hungry he fills with good things.

Profession of Faith

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father almighty,  maker of heaven and earth  And in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,  born of the virgin Mary,  suffered under Pontius Pilate,  was crucified, dead and buried;   he descended into hell;  the third day he rose again from the dead;  he ascended into heaven,  and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;  from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church,* the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.   Amen.

 AT HOLIDAY ISLAND

·        ISunday, August 15, our Annual Parish Social.  This year it is Holiday Island’s turn to be the site of this time for renewing the bonds of our Parish Fellowship.  At this year’s social we will also have an opportunity to lift up the good work we all achieved in our study of the 5 Practices of Fruitful Congregations.

With Prayer:

Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer, hear our prayers.  Alleviate our worry and sorrow with Your gentle love and grant us the grace and strength to accept this burden. We place our worries in Your hands and place those we care for under Your care and humbly ask that You raise them up and restore them.  Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge Your will and know that whatever You do, You do for the love of us.  Amen
